LI Tip: Turn Off ‘People Also Viewed’
This month’s LinkedIn Tip: Turn off “People Also Viewed”
When you first create a LinkedIn account, the default for profiles contains a column (on the right side of the page) that shows a list of profiles your visitors visited after stopping on your profile.
What this does is it gives your profile visitors *many* other options for people to check out who are in a similar role to yours.
When Mark Smith does a search and ends up on your profile, like anyone, he’ll scroll through your content. His glance goes to the right and sees “People Also Viewed.” Now he has five or more other profiles to also check out. He clicks on one and is gone from yours forever.
It’s easy to turn off “People also viewed” (instructions are from desktop view, not mobile):
- Log in to your LinkedIn profile. Click the dropdown arrow next to “Me”, then select “Settings & Privacy”.
- A new window opens. Click on “Account Preferences” on the left, then “Site Preferences”. Scroll to and click on the option “People also viewed.” Click it to “No.”
- Then click “Back to LinkedIn” at the top of the page.
- The column to the right of your profile will now be handy for you, personally. It will now show “People You May Know.”
- (To get to your profile whenever you are signed into LinkedIn, you can click the image above “Me”, or click the down arrow beside “Me”, and select “View Profile”.
You work hard to get people to visit your profile, you want to keep them there!
