LI Tip: Your Name and Pronouns

This month’s LinkedIn Tip: Your Name and Pronouns

Did you know you can add your personal preferred pronouns to your LinkedIn profile?

Perhaps you’ve seen some of your connections already with (She/Her) or (He/Him) or (They/Them) appearing after their names and wonder how you can set yours up, too.

It’s quite simple! And along with those 3 options, there is a Custom option.

To get started (instructions are via a desktop view, not mobile):

  1. 1. Log into your LinkedIn account
  2. 2. Go to your profile. (One way to do that is to click the ‘home’ icon and then your name on the left side of your feed.) You want your profile to fill the page.
  3. 3. Click the pencil icon at the top right of the box that contains your name and headline. (See image below; I’m referring to the 2nd pencil icon on the right side)
Adding/changing the pronouns:
A new box appears where you can change your First name, Last name, Additional name…and then you’ll see the “Pronouns” field.
  1. 1. Use the dropdown arrow at the far right of that field to select your pronoun choice. // If you select ‘Custom’, a new field will appear where you can fill in whatever you like.
  2. 2. Click ‘Save’ when done.
Here is the final result of mine: Lisa J. Jackson (MBA/MA)
name appears as Lisa J Jackson MBA MA

As it’s best not to put acronyms after your name for your LinkedIn profile (it skews search results in search engines), I’ve chosen to put my MBA and MA designations in the pronouns field.

Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn if we aren’t already connected; mention you saw this post.
