What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Contact forms

If you fill out a contact form, that information is obviously collected so that you can receive a response. Any information shared via the contact form is for private use only and will never be shared with other parties without your direct knowledge and consent to do so.

Subscription forms

If you subscribe to a newsletter or purchase any products from Write Your Way, your name and email address will be placed in a database. As with all other personal information, only authorized employees of Write Your Way ever has access to this data. We do not give Write Your Way email addresses to outside companies.

Write Your Way does not sell or rent your email address to anyone. We may use your name and address to send you information on other Write Your Way products that may suit your interests. And, although we disagree with it, we must turn over any pertinent information to any law enforcement agency that takes the proper steps to require it.

Any email you send to Write Your Way is completely confidential. We will not add your name to our email list without your permission..

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Who we share your data with

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

We collect information about visitors who comment on Sites that use our Akismet anti-spam service. If you fill out a subscription form, that information is collected and saved within a customer relationship management (CRM) server so that you can receive the content you have subscribed to. That is the only use for the collected information.

In making your decision whether to provide Personally Identifying Information, you should be aware of the general risks of transmitting information over the Internet. What third parties we receive data from

No data is received from third parties at this time. If you subscribe to a newsletter or to get a download, your information is collected to a customer relationship management (CRM) database.

If you purchase product(s) or service(s) through this site, we and/or a third-party administrator or third-party service provider will collect your financial information, such as debit or check information. Your financial information will be used to bill you for the requested product(s) or service(s), or otherwise process such transactions.
